SCHOLARSHIPS & BURSARIES
Athletic Therapy is a small health care profession in Ontario and across Canada. The Board of Athletic Therapy Ontario AT-ON knows the profession’s potential could be advanced by more awareness of what the academic programs of study, in this specialty within sport medicine, could offer anyone interested in a career that combines a love of sport and athletics with a dynamic scope of health care practice.
Previous administration of the AT-ON scholarships and bursary was focused on the York University and Sheridan College academic offerings. An approach to both institutions’ Foundations was explored. The fact is the funding might be far better applied to recruitment into the programs, to encourage enrolment demands for the programs, if the scholarships were promoted more widely. As well, the goal is to increase the individual scholarship amounts.
To this end, the Association is proud of its new partnership with the Scholar Tree to more widely market and promote the scholarships and the bursary programs. Scholar Tree is an online platform ranked as the Number One place to find or to launch a scholarship in Canada, there are over 250,000 students and educators registered with Scholar Tree.
The existing bursary and scholarship programs are also being redefined against this new, broader mission for impact. The Association has forged a scholarship review group to assist in maintaining the criteria of each financial support program against the integrity of the award namesakes and award criteria.
The three programs, each named in honour of a recognized Athletic Therapy Ontario AT-Champion, include:
-
Shelley Hood Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Bursary
-
Jamie Laws Memorial Scholarship
-
Gus Kandilas Pathfinder Scholarship
The Association is a not-for-profit organization. It is not a charity so donations to support the scholarships do not generate a charitable contribution (CRA-accepted) receipt.
However, donations do qualify as tax-deductible, if filed as a marketing expenditure, for donors who are incorporated as clinic owners, registered practitioners or are sector corporations.
Donors will get an annual report on applicants and selected recipients, plus recipient performance and contributions to the profession.
Donors will be listed on the Scholarship Donor Wall.
Donors that are clinics, registered practitioners or corporations will have a place on the Donor Wall with a link to their professional or corporate website.
